Artist, art school teacher, costume designer, and color consultant Sanzo Wada (1883–1967) lived and worked during the era of the Japanese avant-garde and the rise of Japanese cinema. For his work as a costume designer and color consultant, Wada won an Academy Award in 1955 for Jigokumon in the category of "Best Costume Design for a Color Film." Ahead of his time, he laid important foundations for contemporary color research with his combinations of traditional and Western-influenced color palettes. This beautifully designed, timeless book is based on his original six-volume work from the 1930s and contains 348 attractive and evocative color combinations.

Japanese artist Taku Bannai creates his tranquil, atmospheric images from colored paper cutouts, which he arranges into simple figures and scenes on large, empty surfaces. The result is a unique blend of quiet, minimalist depictions of everyday life.
