Between everyday object and design icon: Makoto Komatsu transforms a classic paper bag into a sophisticated trompe l'œil object made of noble porcelain, including a crease in the lower part. This design, along with other works from the "Crinkle/Crumple" series, was included in the MoMA collection.
Ceramic Japan Co., Ltd. was founded in 1973 in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, with the aim of producing highly sophisticated designs using traditional craftsmanship. The company collaborates with designers from various fields to achieve innovative and artistic results that embody a perfect fusion of design and artistry.
To this day, Seto remains an important production site for porcelain, ceramics, and stoneware. So important that the general term for ceramics in Japanese is simply "setomono."
