Tetsuo Mizu, born in Tokyo, studied at the Musashino Academy of Fine Arts and subsequently lived in various European cities. Mizu gained international recognition in the 1980s with his series of flags. For these works, he arranged international maritime signal flags in such a way that their alphabet spelled out towns or names. These geometric and colorful works have a textile-like structure and appear almost textured and tactile.
