Cochae has recreated and freshly colored the designs from the pattern book Komon Gawa (1790), a work by the Edo-period polymath Santo Kyoden. The set includes five sheets each of six different motifs. The timeless patterns depict scenes from everyday life in Tokyo, rendered in Kyoden's playful design language. The set includes instructions for five origami projects: a small box, a throwing star, a helmet, a balloon, and a small pouch.
The design duo Cochae, consisting of Yosuke Chikuhara and Miki Takeda from Okayama, creates products that surprise and delight while preserving traditional Japanese culture. They engage deeply with the concept of "Design for Play" and, with their unique design language, catapult Japanese traditions into the 21st century.
