Renge spoons originally come from China. These porcelain spoons with a flat bottom are mainly used in Japan for ramen or chāhan. A practical advantage: the spoon has a small hook at the end of the handle and can be hung on the rim of the bowl. The shape resembles a fallen lotus petal ('chirirenge') - hence the name 'renge'.
