The KOKESHI origami set consists of five different folding sheets featuring Kokeshi dolls of the Tsugaru, Zajirō, Tsuchiyu, Sakunami, and Tōgatta types.
Kokeshi dolls are traditional wooden toys from the Tōhoku region. They were made around 1800 in the hot spring regions of northeastern Japan and sold as souvenirs to onsen guests. These highly stylized dolls are part of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and were popular toys in the 19th century, but were replaced by new toys in the early 20th century. The friendly dolls with their nostalgic character have been experiencing a revival for quite some time now.
The design duo Cochae, consisting of Yosuke Chikuhara and Miki Takeda from Okayama, creates products that surprise and bring joy while preserving the traditional culture of Japan. They intensively explore the theme of "Design for Play" and catapult Japan's traditions into the 21st century with their unique design language.
