This edition of the 'Hiroshima Appeals' poster was created in collaboration with the citizens of Hiroshima, who put the stamp of peace on the poster.
The 'Hiroshima Appeals' poster campaign was launched in 1983 by the Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA) in collaboration with the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation to warn against the cruel reality of war and to keep the 'Spirit of Hiroshima' alive. The first poster was designed in 1983 by Yusaku Kamekura, and thereafter a new poster was released each year by a designer affiliated with JAGDA.
After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School in 1962, Aoba founded the Masuteru Aoba Design Office in 1969. During his career, he received numerous awards, including the Asahi Advertising Award, the Mainichi Advertising Award, and the Tokyo Art Directors Club Award. His work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions worldwide.
