The small plates, called mamezara (literally: “bean” or “pea plates”), are an important part of Japanese table culture and are used in a variety of ways: as dishes for soy sauce, dips, spices, and herbs; for small side dishes such as pickled vegetables; for small snacks and sweets, or even for butter and jam. Often designed with elaborate decorations in various colors and diverse shapes, mamezara have also become popular collector's items.
True to their motto "Art in everyday life," Amabro designs stylish everyday objects for modern living, using traditional Japanese elements as a basis and reinterpreting them or combining them with modern details. For the mamezara, modern, graphic designs are overlaid on traditional, classic patterns. A cool mix that brings Arita's 400-year-old porcelain tradition to the contemporary dining table.
