Mamezara from the “INCOMPLETE” series

The Incomplete series takes the typical cobalt blue (gosu) basic patterns of traditional Arita plates and complements them with modern gold foil designs.
The small plates, called mamezara (literally: “bean” or “pea plates”), are an important part of Japanese table culture and are used in a variety of ways: as plates for soy sauce, dips, spices and herbs; for small side dishes such as pickled vegetables; for small snacks and sweets or even for butter and jam, and much more. Often decorated with elaborate designs in various colors and shapes, mamezara have also become a popular collector's item.

True to their motto "Art in Everyday Life", Amabro designs stylish everyday objects for modern living, using traditional Japanese elements as a basis and reinterpreting them or combining them with modern details. For the mamezara, modern, graphic designs are layered over traditional, classic patterns. A cool mix that brings Arita's 400-year-old porcelain tradition to the contemporary dining table.
