Small plate Mamezara 'Chosusukimon Hakkakusara' (Butterfly and Reed)

The small plates called mamezara (literally: “bean plates”), are an important part of Japanese table culture and are used in a variety of ways: as dishes for soy sauce, dips, spices and herbs; for small side dishes such as pickled vegetables; for small snacks and sweets or even for butter and jam. Often designed with elaborate decor in various colours and shapes, mamezara have also become a popular collector's item.

True to their motto "Art in everyday life", Amabro designs stylish everyday objects for modern life, using traditional Japanese elements as a basis and reinterpreting them or combining them with modern details. In the case of mamezara, modern, graphic designs are layered over traditional, classic patterns. A cool mix that brings Arita's 400-year-old porcelain tradition to the contemporary dining table.
