Kokeshi dolls are traditional wooden dolls from the Tōhoku region. They were produced from 1800 onwards in the hot spring regions of northeastern Japan and sold as souvenirs to Onsen guests. These highly stylized dolls are a traditional Japanese craft and were popular toys in the 19th century, but were replaced by new toys in the early 20th century. However, these friendly, nostalgic dolls have been experiencing a revival for quite some time now.

The design duo Cochae, consisting of Yosuke Chikuhara and Miki Takeda from Okayama, creates products that surprise and delight, while preserving Japan's traditional culture. They delve deeply into the topic of "Design for Play" and, with their unique design language, catapult Japan's traditions into the 21st century.
