Poster for the exhibition The 200th Anniversary of SHARAKU (1794–1994)

This poster was produced for the poster design exhibition celebrating the 200th anniversary of Sharaku. The artistic career of the mysterious ukiyo-e designer Toshusai Sharaku (active 1794–1795) spanned only ten months, yet in that time, he created some of Japan’s most memorable artworks. Even 200 years later, his figure remains a mystery.

Graphic designer and creative director Kenzō Nakagawa, after working in the advertising department of Takashimaya and the Nippon Design Center, founded NDC Graphics in Yokohama in 1994.
