Glass coaster 'Kobo' | Futagami
Design: Yoshiki Yamazaki
Manufacturer: Futagami, Takaoka
Material: brass, solid, silicone ring
Dimensions: Ø 10 cm
Made in Japan
The elegant Kobo coaster's raised rays – Japanese for "ray of light" – are not only beautiful to look at, but also serve to collect condensation from the glass in the grooves, preventing the glass from sticking to the coaster when lifted. A silicone ring in the base prevents slipping and protects the table.
Like all Futagami brass products, this piece will develop a beautiful patina over time through oxidation, becoming slightly darker. The longer brass objects are used, the more rich in history their surface becomes.
Born in Toyama Prefecture, product designer Yoshiki Yamazaki worked in foundries and design firms, finally starting his own design company in 2011.
The Futagami brass foundry was founded in 1897 in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. In Japan, brass was primarily used for metal fittings in furniture making, architecture, shipbuilding, handicrafts, and Buddhist altar furnishings.
