70% of Japan's land area is covered by trees. Nevertheless, the country is a major importer of wood products, while a large part of its own forests remains unused for economic reasons. The reason for this lies in the difficult accessibility of many forest areas, which are mostly located in mountainous terrain. The Japanese company Japanese Botanical Laboratory has set itself the goal of developing these unused forestry resources in an innovative way and thus promoting the livelihood of rural communities by utilizing the native forests as a source of high-quality gourmet ingredients.
