The multifaceted product designer Makoto Komatsu, after graduating from Musashino Art University, worked as an assistant to the Swedish ceramicist Stig Lindberg at the company Gustavsberg. His designs are extremely diverse, ranging from ceramic, glass, and stainless steel tableware to lighting and furniture. Some of his works have been included in the collections of MoMA in New York and the V&A Museum in London.
Ceramic Japan Co., Ltd. was founded in 1973 in Seto, Aichi Prefecture, with the goal of producing sophisticated designs using traditional craftsmanship. The company collaborates with designers from diverse fields, achieving innovative and artistic results that embody a perfect fusion of design and artistry.
Seto remains an important production center for porcelain, ceramics, and stoneware. So important, in fact, that the general term for ceramics in Japanese is simply "setomono".
