33 Japanese Teahouses | Architecture and Urbanism

This special issue on Japanese teahouses presents 33 works, 22 of which have been newly photographed. From the classic masterpieces of Sen no Rikyu and Kobori Enshu to modern works that oscillate between tradition and renewal, this issue also features architecture that uses teahouses as a design template. In addition to photographs, models, and floor plans, detailed interior views and sections are also included. With an essay by guest editor Kirisako Kunio on the idea of “relationship with nature” and a conversation with Ishigami Junya, this issue delves deeply into the aesthetics and culture of the teahouse.
