Artist, art school teacher, costume designer, and color consultant Sanzo Wada (1883–1967) lived and worked during the era of the Japanese avant-garde and the rise of Japanese cinema. For his work as a costume designer and color consultant, Wada won an Academy Award in 1955 for Jigokumon in the category of "Best Costume Design for a Color Film." Ahead of his time, he laid important foundations for contemporary color research with his combinations of traditional and Western-influenced color palettes.
Following the great success of the first volume, *A Dictionary of Color Combinations Volume 1*, the long-awaited sequel is now available, comprising two further works by Wada published between 1935–1936 and 1938, respectively. The book presents 72 color swatches based on the Japanese seasons, as well as 165 additional swatches from the fields of fashion, interior design, and graphic design of the early 20th century. An indispensable reference work for creatives in all disciplines, especially design, fashion, interior design, illustration, photography, graphic design, etc.
