100 Years of Samiro Yunoki not only brings together the work of the dyer, textile designer, artist, and art professor Samiro Yunoki (b. 1922), but also explores his diverse talents and creative activities as a lecturer at Joshibi University of Art and Design. Approximately 150 works are presented, including stenciled and other dyed textiles, stained glass, and book covers from the 1950s to the 2000s; artworks for the Ace Hotel Kyoto (opened 2020); and designs created in collaboration with the interior brand Idée. Now a centenarian, Yunoki studied art history at the Imperial University of Tokyo from 1942. Impressed by the works of Katazome master Keisuke Serizawa, he joined the Mingei movement led by Soetsu Yanagi, which aimed to revive traditional Japanese crafts.
Even at a hundred years old, Yunoki still creates art and continues to inspire generations.
